Is gua sha painful?

Treatment is not supposed to be painful, but gua sha deliberately causes bruising, which may cause discomfort for some people. These bruises should heal within a few days.

How to do gua sha therapy?

  • Apply oil or therapeutic balm to the affected area before you scrape it.
  • Move the gua sha tool in one direction over the stiff muscle. Follow the contours of your muscle and continue scraping and applying pressure to the affected muscle.
  • Angle the tool at 45 degrees in the direction that you want to treat.
  • Press the tool into the body with smooth, firm strokes in one direction

  • Continue scraping the sore muscle until it turns red. As you rub over the sore muscle, capillaries under your skin will break and create what’s known as petechia
  • Scraping is always one direction only and the movements don’t have to go back and forth
  • Clean off your gua sha tool after every use.

Notice:
